Katie Abbotts - Emergency Night Nurse
Katie Abbotts FdSc RVN Emergency Night Nurse

Katie qualified in Level 3 Animal Management and Equine before going on to complete a degree in Veterinary Nursing and qualifying as an RVN in 2015.

Katie began her nursing training working in a busy 24-hour veterinary hospital in Leeds which initially sparked her interest in emergency and out-of-hours work. It was here that she learned fundamental nursing skills and discovered that she thrives in busy and high-stress environments. This role first introduced Katie to the RSPCA in which she liaised with welfare inspectors and on some occasions assisted the charity with casework animals.

Since qualifying, Katie spent 8 years working for the RSPCA Birmingham Animal Hospital, where the foundation of her core value for animal welfare developed. Katie’s dedication to the RSPCA mission and values allowed her to progress into a senior management position where she led a dedicated team of nurses and veterinary care assistants as a Medical Nursing Team Leader. Throughout this role, she developed leadership, coaching and mentoring skills as well as continuing to develop advanced nursing experience while working with 24-hour emergencies, welfare case animals, strays, and a varied range of exotic and wildlife species.

Katie’s interest in developing into a discipline specific emergency nurse led her to leave the role and join an out-of-hours team as an Emergency Night Nurse while also locuming for VetsNow which often presented a busy and unpredictable caseload. From here, the next step to continue her career progression was to move into referral nursing and join Blaise.

She is currently working towards obtaining a Cert VN ECC certificate and has a keen interest in emergency surgery/anaesthetics and ICU patient care.

Outside of work, Katie would describe herself as a spooky, sparkly, spontaneous free-spirited individual who enjoys travel, new experiences, spending time as a family, socialising with friends or adventuring outdoors with sausage dogs Frankie and Lincon.
