Lara Dempsey

Lara graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2000.

She worked within mixed practice for a number of years, working with farm, equine and small animals. During this time, she developed an interest in small animal surgery and from that, she made the decision to undergo specialist training in surgery. She has gained certificates in small animal surgery, small animal medicine, and advanced practitioner status in 2014 before starting her specialist training.

Lara gained her European Diploma in Small Animal Surgery in 2019.

Previously she has presented extensively at BSAVA congresses over the past few years, and on webinars and in meetings and lectures.

Lara says, “I have always loved animals and even as I child, I knew I wanted to help animals. I chose my discipline as I developed a passion for small animal surgery in general practice, especially soft tissue surgery. I decided to specialise as I wanted to be the best I could be at surgery and offer the most advanced and up to date surgical procedures and the highest standard of patient care.”

Lara enjoys all aspects of conventional and minimally invasive soft tissue surgery, and the variety that soft tissue surgery has to offer. She plans to progress the soft tissue services at Blaise to offer the most up to date and appropriate treatments possible.

“As Head of Soft Tissue Surgery at Blaise I am keen to promote a positive and happy working environment for staff to reach their potential and be fulfilled at work and become the very best they can.”

In her spare time, Lara enjoys nature and the outdoors. She particularly enjoys mountain and countryside walks with her husband and four rescue dogs. She also loves travel, with the Scottish Isles being one of her favourite places to go.
